
Athina Smalios earned her Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from Murray State University in Kentucky and her Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of South Florida in 2005. She became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Florida in 2008 and is also a Qualified Supervisor for Registered Clinical Social Work Interns.
Athina began her career working with youth in community-based programs before providing counseling and advocacy services to children who had experienced abuse. She has also worked in community mental health, medical social work, outpatient therapy, and telehealth, gaining experience serving children, adolescents, adults, and families across a variety of settings. Throughout her career, she has conducted psychosocial assessments, crisis intervention, risk assessments, individual and family counseling, and case management while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support individuals experiencing mental health and life challenges.
For the past eighteen years, Athina has served as a School Social Worker with Pinellas County Schools, where she provides crisis intervention, behavioral assessments, individual and group counseling, and mental health support for students and families.
Athina’s clinical approach is rooted in compassion, collaboration, and evidence-based practice. She believes in empowering individuals by building on their strengths while providing practical tools that foster resilience, emotional wellness, and lasting positive change.
